One Book, One TV Show: Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations

I related to Pip a little, growing up poor I wanted to have money and be able to buy what I wanted without having to worry about it. I was a little embarrassed by the fact that the clothes and shoes I wore were not what most of the other kids were wearing. I wanted to live in a suburb, not in housing projects. Fortunately, like Pip I figured out that it’s not money that makes you the man or woman you want to be in life.

The TV show is the 1999 BBC version and was only 4 episodes so you can guess that a lot of stuff was left out, but they hit all the major points. I imagine that if a person who wasn’t familiar with the book might b a little put off by it, but then again a person who wasn’t familiar with the book probably wouldn’t watch the show.

There were a lot of familiar faces one being Ian McDiarmid as Jaggers and who plays Palpatine in several of the Star Wars movies and Clive Russell as Joe, Game of Thrones fans will recognize him as The Blackfish. My friend and I have a theory, you can pick any British TV show or movie and 9 times out of 10 you will see someone who was in Game of Thrones.
